Avalanche warning for region Lofoten og Vesterålen Monday 18.04.2022

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Update Monday morning. Wet snowpack. Wet loose avalanches can be triggered on steep terrain. Old persistent weak layers are now melted and not considered an avalanche problem.

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Monday 18. April 2022

Mountain weather

Sunday 17. April 2022

3-6 mm precipitation. Precipitation as rain. Fresh breeze from southwest. 0 °C to 5 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 18. April 2022

2-5 mm precipitation. Precipitation as rain. Fresh breeze from southwest, changing to breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. 0 °C to 5 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Oppdatert mandag morgen.

Høye temperaturer og regn har nå trukket ned i snødekket og gjort den til en våt masse.

Tidligere problemer med svake lag av kantkorn ventes nå å være borte.

Det kan være lett for skiløpere å løse ut våte skred i bratt terreng.
